Training with GUWC
Training Days

Open training:
-
Mondays 8-10:15pm
-
Wednesday 1-3:30pm

Coached training:
-
Saturday > 1-3pm for Powerlifting
-
Saturday > 3-5pm for Olympic Weightlifting
Location:
-
These sessions are held in Studio 1 of the Stevenson building (or as we affectionately refer to as 'The Stevie'). Outside of these sessions, you will likely run into other members regardless of what time you go to the gym!
-
The Coached training sessions are held in the powerplay section of the Stevenson building so more members are able to attend! (this is where you are likely to meet most of the GUWC members all at once!)
Why you should sign up:
Although these training sessions are not mandatory to be a part of the club they are a fantastic way to meet new people and overcome any potential apprehension about working out in the gym.

(Please note: that you are required to be a GUWC member to attend training but we do offer taster sessions at the beginning of each semester.)

Competing
Lifters in the club routinely travel nationally and internationally for competitions:

-
In 2018 our women's powerlifting team travelled to Pilsen in the Czech Republic to bring home gold in the World University Powerlifting Cup, and in 2019 both our men's and women's teams competed in Tartu, Estonia, with our women's team achieving second place.
-
We're incredibly proud of our women's powerlifting team for being awarded with GUSA Club of the Year for 2019-2020, and securing the title for best women's team at Scottish Unis 2022.

If competing isn't for you, don't worry! You can still get a taste of the team atmosphere by coming along to support your friends, and by taking part in our mock competitions during first semester. However, if it's fear or not feeling ready or good enough to compete then we suggest ignoring those intrusive thoughts because as many competitive lifter's suggest there is no 'right' time to start competing.
